Selkie Cashmere/Merino Yarns
Burrrrrrrrr. Or as we say in Scotland, Burrrrrrrrns! This year we celebrate Robert Burns 250 anniversary and Homecoming Scotland 2009! The whole year will be one great celebration of Scottish history and achievements such as Scots literature, golf, whisky and we think knitting should be on that list as well!
After all, what country has given more to the romance of knitting than Scotland? Argyle, Aran, Shetland, the Fair Isles; the map of Scotland reads like a history of knitting!
This year we will be joining in the fun at K1 Yarns by bringing you a series of new Scottish yarns, knitting events and by promoting Scottish designers! The fun starts right away this month with a launch of our New Lanark range of Donegal Tweed yarns! New Lanark's historic mill, located just south of Glasgow, still produces beautiful woolen knitting yarns using an 18th century watermill. These Scottish wools are highly sought after, particularly the silk/wool Donegal Tweeds, which will now be available at our Glasgow and Edinburgh shops and online!
Join us on Saturday 21 February when we kick off our year of Scottish knitting with our Old Maiden Aunt Wicked Lace Weekend! K1's own Lilith Green, master hand-dyer of Scotland's Old Maiden Aunt yarns will be in our Edinburgh West Bow shop all day to launch her 'Homecoming" collection - to tie in with the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birthday & the "Homecoming Scotland" campaign; plus, it's Lilith's 10-year anniversary of moving "back home" to Scotland! Lilith has designed a whole new series of colourways inspired by things that she considers to be uniquely Scottish. See them for the first time at K1 Yarns on February 21!
We are also very excited to announce our new in-house brand of luxury double knitting yarns with a sneek preview this month! Our new Selkie range, inspired by the mythology of the Orkney Islands where it is lovingly hand-dyed exclusively for us, is an ultra-luxurious blend of cashmere and superfine merino. The range and a new series of hand knitting designs will be launched at K1 Yarns in May, but we have a very limited quantity available this Valentine's day in our Edinburgh and Glasgow shops! Come in and see for yourself! We think you'll agree that it's worth moving to Scotland for!
The fun doesn't end in February. We are looking forward to March with our first Fyberspates Trunkshow of 2009! This year we are even more excited as our Fyberspates Trunkshow on Saturday 7 March will conicide with the launch of a new colour range of Fyberspates sock yarns that K1 Yarns will stock as a standard range! Jeni will be here in the shop all day with a wide array of one-of-a-kind skeins ranging from the ultra fine pure silk infinity lace (3000 meters per skein) to her beautiful stripey sock yarns! Many of these yarns will be here for 1 day only so be sure to come along and join in the fun!
Other new yarns this month include the Rooster alpaca/merino range. These wonderfully soft yarns knit up to a beautiful finish and are perfect for itch free children's garments as well. The Rooster booklet contains a whole range of hand knitting and crochet projects for the family and home!
Our knitting and crochet classes are a huge success in Glasgow and Edinburgh. New classes for March are now available so check our website and book your place now!
Stay tuned for additional new and exciting yarns for spring and summer 2009 plus more events at K1 Yarns Knitting Boutiques!
