Lilith and Liz

Sat 16th Feb 2008

I am so happy to announce two new members of our K1 Yarns Glasgow shop. Some of you will remember Lilith and Liz as the helpful staff from Fankle of Troon, now sadly closed. I am so happy that they are now here at K1 Yarns in Glasgow and I know that you will be too!

Many of you will already be familiar with Lilith's handspun yarn range 'Old Maiden Aunt'. Lilith is an expert in every aspect of the yarn business from spinning, dying, hand-painting and of course knitting. She is also happy to take custom orders for her ever popular hat kits. We are so excited that Lilith has now designed a new K1 Yarns exclusive colour range for her popular 100% merino superwash sock yarns! But wait until  you see the new cashmere/silk 2 ply yarns that she has created for the opening of our Edinburgh shop!

Liz is quickly forming a huge fan base here at K1 yarns. The past two Saturdays I have had a steady stream of customers come in to tell me how much they love her. Liz has been knitting for over 50 years and has knitted professionally for some of UK's top knitwear designers. There is no knitting problem that is too complex for her to help with!

Lilith, Liz and I will be here to help you with all of your knitting needs. We look forward to seeing you at our Glasgow shop!

The fashionable Boutiques of West Bow

A few years ago my husband and I brought our son to Scotland for the Christmas holidays. We were planning to move to Glasgow later that year and this was to be an introduction for our son and a chance for us to spend some time exploring. During our trip we made the inevitable tour of Edinburgh Old Town. I remember it was a beautiful sunny day in December (yes really) and we were standing on the south side of the Grassmarket. at the bottom of the West Bow. I told my son to look up, way up, into the sky and there above him was the towering castle. Could this be Hogsmead?' we thought. We had only just finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Many of you will have heard rumours over the past months, even year, that I have been working towards opening a second location of K1 Yarns Knitting Boutique. It has taken quite a while to find the perfect location. I am happy to announce that our search has been successful and that we are soon to open a second shop at 89 West Bow,  Edinburgh Old Town!

West Bow (the Grassmarket end of Victoria St), is perhaps one of the most photographed streets in Edinburgh and also one of the oldest. West Bow has an exciting and colourful history and boasts quite a few ghosts. One in particular is the famous Wizard of West Bow who lived at number 10. Unfortunately this particular Wizard fell into the practice of the Dark Arts and met with a grizzly end. 89 West Bow was built in the early 1600's and our researches have revealed that it was once a rope makers. Rumour has it that they did a steady business in supplying the hangmen who worked at the public gallows at the end of the street.! Let's hope our custormers have a better use for a slip knot!

Our new larger shop will stock more extensive ranges and colours of our most popular yarns, plus some new and exciting additions that we have not carried before. We will have a large selection of Scottish yarns including a wider range of Jamieson's of Shetland, Ardalanish, new and exclusive yarns from Old Maiden Aunt, and the entire colour range of Orkney Angora! You will also find all of your favourites, including: Debbie Bliss, Noro, Araucania plus new and exciting yarns from Artesano and Fyberspates! Other new brands will be announced shortly! Much of our new stock has already been arriving this week at our Glasgow shop, so no need to wait to see what's new!! Come in today to our Glasgow shop and have a look at new yarns and spring colours.

Our opening date and other special events will be announced shortly so please keep checking our website for details! We hope that you will come to visit us at both of our great locations and that we can help you to find the most beautiful yarn for the perfect project! Hogsmead or not, we think you will find a wee bit of magic at K1 Yarns!
