Cary on Knitting

Last minute shopping. Final preparations for the big day. Huge meal to prepare. Last presents to finish….

And then……

It’s me time. Don’t forget! Boxing Day is the official beginning of ‘knitting for me’ season. Yes, you have spent the past months making lovely things, shopping, cooking and generally being an angel to everyone else. Your reward is to sit back for the rest of the holidays and make something beautiful just for yourself. Get them to bring the tea. Get them to bring the Christmas cake. Get them to switch on the telly to your favourite old movie.

But don’t forget! While you are sitting back relaxing with your family over the holidays, so will I. While I take my Christmas break, our Queen Margaret Drive shop will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1. We will re-open at 10 am on Jan. 2, 2007.

However… the internet never sleeps and our online shop will be open 24 h a day throughout the Christmas holidays. We will even have a fantastic online only Boxing Day sale so if you have received an online gift certificate for Christmas this is the perfect time to shop! If you haven’t received an online gift certificate there is still time to send a gentle reminder to whoever does the last minute Christmas shopping in your family!

January is already working up to be a very exciting month in the knitting calendar! Our ‘Introduction to Sock Knitting’ course has been a huge hit. We still have a very limited number of places left in our January courses. Sian is also planning some fantastic new knitting classes for 2007 so keep watching our ‘classes’ page!

K1 Yarns Knitting Boutique and the Grosvenor Cinema proudly present…..

Tuesday Knit at the Movies!

Beginning on Tuesday, January 30 and on the last Tuesday of every month in 2007 the Grosvenor Cinema will be hosting a special movie screening for Glasgow’s knitters! That’s right, the Grosvenor loves knitting! Come along and sit back in one of the Grosvenor’s oversized leather seats and watch a newly released film with all of your knitting mates! Yes, the lights will be turned up just a little bit so that you can see. Meet-up afterwards in The Lane Café (in the Grosvenor Cinema) for a post-film ‘Crit and Knit’. Details of film times, etc. will be listed on our Big Knit Out page on the week prior to the film so keep checking! Come along on Jan. 30 and receive a k1 Yarns discount voucher with your ticket!

There are still a few special new items to be launched before the Christmas holidays and the new Interweave Knits magazine is due in any minute! So don’t forget to stop by this week for all of your last minute knitting supplies for the holidays! We will be open this Sunday, Dec. 17 from 12 – 4.

Wishing you the very Happiest Christmas and a

Very Knitty New Year!

Welcome to the Holidays!

Fri 1st Dec 2006

It's December! I have to confess that I am a big holiday lover! I still feel like a child at this time of year and get all silly about the Christmas season. I could hardly wait this morning to open the first little door of the Dalek Advent Calendar in my shop!
People always ask me if I get tired of knitting and wools. The answer so far is NO! In fact, I think that having a wool shop has only deepened my addiction to the creative crafts, whether it's knitting, sewing or dozens of other little projects that I always seem to have on the go! Part of the reason is that I am always surrounded by a rich and ever changing array of the most beautiful yarns that I can find. Every part of it is exciting, from the discovery of a new yarn, to the sourcing and finally the wonderful day when that big brown box arrives and I open it to see pure colour and wonderful texture. It's almost like, well, Christmas!
This season I have been particularly happy to add HIp Knits to our range. After meeting Kerrie at the big Knitting show in London in October and seeing her beautiful range of yarns I knew that they were for me. I am almost finished making myself a beautiful, Lipstick (or Santa) red jumper from the Aran weight silk. I don't know about you, but at this time of year, after having spent the whole year knitting for someone else or for the shop, it is pure indulgence time! I have several projects lined up for the Christmas season including the Noro Kochoran oversized cable jumper that I have always wanted to knit!
The new Hummingbird DK sock yarns from Artesano are also very lovely. They are so soft that every time my fingers get really cold I reach down and pick one up and hold it for a while until they warm up again!
I still have one or two new surprises in store before Christmas, and hopefully one new brand of yarn that we have not carried before. Although the shop will be closed during Christmas week (Dec. 24-Jan 1) our online shop will be open the whole time (with a few surprises for online customers during Christmas week).
Whether your holiday plans are active or restful, I hope that they are also warm and cozy!
Happy Holidays!
