k1 Yarns has been supplying beautiful and unusual yarns to knitters and crocheters in Scotland since 2005. Owner, Katharine Walker, is a passionate knitter and has an obsession with seeking out the most beautiful and unique yarns for knitters and crocheters who crave something different. Our Glasgow and Edinburgh shops stock a wide range of Scottish yarns, including Jamieson’s of Shetland and rarer brands such as Orkney Angora, Old Maiden Aunt and Ardalanish organic wools. Katharine loves yarns from small independent producers and over the past few years has worked with UK artisans such as Fyberspates to introduce many new yarns never before available in Scotland. For the truly uncommon, Katharine has also sought out yarns from farther a field, such as our very unusual linen paper yarns, silk, wool and stainless steel blends and new copper yarns from Japan. To round out the selection, k1 also carries the best of popular well known brands such as Debbie Bliss, Noro and South American yarns from Artesano and Araucania.

Our original Knitting Boutique is located on Queen Margaret Drive in Glasgow’s West End, just across the river from the famous Botanic Gardens. Queen Margaret Drive is one of Glasgow’s few independent boutique shopping streets, with a growing number of great shops including Ae Fond Kiss gifts and jewelry, E & A Clothing featuring Scottish independent designers, Ashtons Handmade Soaps and Bath Bombs and Opal Moon for the mystical and magical. There are plenty of toys for the boys at Bike Love and Eric Hi Fi! Finally, North Star Café, nominated for the Scottish Style Awards Café of the Year, has the best coffee and food in the West End.

Our new larger shop is located at 89 West Bow in Edinburgh’s Old Town, in between the Grassmarket and the Royal Mile on Edinburgh’s most photographed street! We will have much more to offer in this larger shop, including in-store knitting classes and cozy comfy chairs to just curl up in and knit away. Drop by and unwind in a laid back atmosphere where you can sit and plan your next project, or just knit and chat!
